The Concerning State of Education in Africa

the-concerning-state-of-education-in-africa

Africa is a continent rich in culture, history, and human potential. However, the current state of education in many African countries poses future risks for the whole continent’s economy, human rights, and peace. As a non-profit organization, we aim to address these educational setbacks one child at a time.

Open Door Initiatives is a charitable organization in Houston, Texas, that seeks to bridge the gap between access to education and the children of Africa through scholarships and other programs.

But there are still other educational drawbacks the world needs to dwell on, including:

  • Shortage of Teachers and Tools

According to UNESCO, several African nations experience a lack of instructional materials like books, as well as teacher shortages. The existing teachers in the region also face low-working conditions due to large class sizes.

  • Crumbling Infrastructure

Basic amenities are also a priority in many schools, such as electricity, water supply, classrooms, and more. In South Africa, a relatively well-developed African nation, poor school infrastructure has led to the deaths of two students.

  • Gender Gap

In the sub-Saharan region, around 9 million girls aged 6 to 11, are expected to never go to school at all ? higher than the out-of-school number for boys at 6 million. One of our goals is to provide equal educational opportunities to African children regardless of gender.

We cannot do this without your help. Our charity organization in Texas needs individuals with a genuine heart to serve others. If you would like to become a part of our cause as a volunteer, donor, or sponsor, please let us know.
